Personal Fasting

“Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 17 But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18 so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” (Matthew 6:16-18).

Fasting, some of you sigh at the very thought. Don’t worry I’m not judging, I do the same. It is one of the hardest things yet at the same time one of the most powerful tools. Restraining our bodies from food/water and focusing on God, what a rewarding sacrifice.

Last week I fasted and let me tell you it was not easy. God, however, is very faithful and true to His word. I remember things that I had prayed for months before hand suddenly happen after the fasting. I can tell you now I was overjoyed. He is truly a rewarder. Then I got to thinking what was so different this time around? It hit me, most people didn’t know I was fasting, nor did I show that I was. Nowadays Christians have become so used to complaining. Am I right? we are quick to forget Matthew 6:16-18. Those who fast in secret get their great reward from God. However, if we fast publically and complain we have already received our reward (the attention). We always want people to know of our sufferings and hardships. We forget sometimes it is best to keep secretive so that God will bless us.

So if you are wondering like I used to. Why is it that when you fast nothing seems to change? well, take a step back and review yourself. Were you doing a public fasting or a personal fasting? Stay blessed!

He is a Rewarder of those who do not publicise.

Rooted In The Truth

Rooted in the truth/in Christ, how do we get there? How does one become rooted?. These questions were running through my mind these past few weeks. And God showed an answer. It’s very simple yet comes with complications. Being rooted in Christ is when you know the word of God and having the ability to obey His commandments without compromising. Doing what the Lord says and building a personal relationship with Him. However ladies, don’t get it twisted, this is easier said than done.

One thing we must understand is that when we decide to become rooted it is not an overnight transformation. It is a long-term process, and it differs for everybody. I know sometimes we want to speed the process and get to where God wants us to be fast, becoming impatient. But we need to understand the best time is God’s time “To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven”(Ecclesiastes 3:1). This process will be full of conflict, challenges, and spiritual warfare.

Even Jesus in the Gospel of Luke expressed how following him would cause conflict within families, “Father will be divided against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.” (Luke 12:53). For some, there will be battles for Christ with their parents. Nevertheless, with conflict comes courage, to stand for what you believe in. To stand for the truth. To stand for Christ.

When Rooted In Christ there comes challenges. This world will bring forth many ideas that go against the word of God. We sometimes become afraid to stand up for Christ. Especially young people, we start to become ashamed of who we are. But it says in the word ” For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16). We cannot be ashamed because we do not seek validation from this world but we seek it from God. Furthermore, commitment, we must be committed to change, to letting go of past behaviours and giving our all to God.

Lastly, we enter a spiritual warfare. We have one enemy and that enemy is the devil who comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). We need to understand that he will try and persuade us to go astray but we must remain grounded in the things of Christ and resist temptations. Like Jesus resist temptations by the devil himself in the wilderness (Luke 4:1-13). Jesus also set an example of how we can also resist the devil’s temptations, through the word of God. Stay blessed!

Stay Rooted in the Truth

A Little Encouragement

Hey ladies, apologies for not posting for the past two weeks. It was exam period and things had gotten a bit out of hand.
So, for anyone who was in my position and needs a little encouragement you have come to the right place.

Sometimes you can get wrapped up in the thought that you have reached your maximum, you can’t push any further, you can’t go on. Just remember to tell yourself NO! Say NO to falling down, say NO to giving up. For our Father who is in Heaven, the Lord, God, Almighty is faithful. He will lead you, He will cause your feet not to stumble. depend on Him always.

“In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”(Proverbs 3:16) Do not forget the Lord your God in times of hardships, His waiting on you to call on Him so He can direct the way for you. Stay blessed!

Blessed are those who trust in the Lord 🙂

Be Strong And Of Good Courage

Scenario: You are with your friends and you are a very strong Christian and they are not so much. You begin to discuss the bible and they starting speaking of how it’s fake and not real. What would you do? What would you say? It’s easy right now to say yea I would totally speak up and defend the word of God. Educate them about the importance of the Bible, and how it is inspired by God and since God words are the truth “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.”(John 17:17) then the Bible is true. Well, this might be the case for some but for others, easier said than done.

When alone you imagine you can and might convince yourself this is what you would do. However, when it becomes a reality you can completely switch up and find yourself afraid and silent. In a society where we desire to belong it can be hard to defend what we believe in. We become so afraid as Christian to talk about Christ, to spread the good news. We become so afraid of the outcome, what will they think of me? We become afraid of rejection, what if they walk away from me? We are afraid of not belonging.

“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”(Deuteronomy 31:6). We are sent as children of God to go and minister the word and bring souls to Christ. Nevertheless, Nobody said it was going to be easy, It comes with fear and weakness. That’s why we need strength and courage from God to get us through. Knowing that as His children He will never leave us nor forsake us, we should not fear anything. “I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.”(Joshua 17:15-16). We should understand that we do not belong to the world anymore but we belong to Christ, who is not of the world. This gives us the good courage to minister to others, the God-given courage to do what He has sent us to do “And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”(Mark 15:16). SISTERS! BE STRONG AND OF GOOD COURAGE. Stay blessed!

Slow Down, Make Time For God

Have you come to that time of year where the struggle is truly real? Things are starting to pile up and you are just getting lazier and lazier? Well, welcome to the club! Honestly, for these past 2 weeks, I have been a complete mess (yes laugh with me, because I know some of you feel the same).

To make matter worse the demands of so many things in life such as money (haha I know we all struggle with that one), education, study, socialising etc. It can be draining on a woman. I mean come on! can’t a girl get a beauty rest for a second? Anywho enough of that, this can also cause a decrease in the amount of time we spend with God. We can become so busy at times we forget to just sit down and meditate on God’s word “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night”(Psalm 1:2). Okay, let’s be real for a moment who else at times feels so tired that when it gets to that time with God, you end up making a short prayer, reading a quick verse and giving yourself a pat well done on the back. Don’t get me wrong that’s still a great effort, better that than nothing. However, it’s also essential to really sit down, read the word, understand it and just let it manifest in your everyday life.

I know easier said than done. This is why I also have a few suggestions, to make sure you are keeping in touch with God.

1. Plan a bible study with someone. It can be once a week or as many times as you wish where you meet up and just enjoy the presence of the lord. This can be very effective if you plan with someone who is as committed as yourself. Someone you know and trust. It will surely make it more enjoyable sharing ideas and getting closer to God.
2. As I have said before in a past post, always pray before and after you read the bible. This will get you into the spirit and prepare you for whatever God has to reveal through the chapter/verse.
3. After bible Study or alone reading, always make sure before you go to bed to meditate upon what you have read. Take the time to fully understand the word and thank God for it.
4. Lastly, whenever you are in a moment of peace and silence just take the time to appreciate God. Even after managing to get that morning coffee before work. THANK GOD! Little appreciations like that also matter to God. Stay blessed!

So just a little reminder for all you lovely ladies and myself. Slow down and make time for God, it’s important to Him and you as well, it will build your relationship.
