Look At Yourself, You’re Good

URRGHHHH! Who else is already done with this week? And it’s only TUESDAY! The last few weeks have been crazy, with lectures, handing in assessments, doing tests and managing a blog, it’s hectic. So, to all you other bloggers looking at this right now nodding your heads, I know I feel you.

Okay, last week was kind of a crazy one, filled with less good and more stressful, bad moments. It is times like these when you need God the most. You look left, you look right and all you see are people fighting their own battles that you know they won’t have time to aid in yours. It’s in these moments you can only truly depend on God to get you through and allow Him to be your comforter. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).

There will honestly be times where you feel down, feel like giving up on the life that keeps pushing you down. Take it from someone who knows, these days are so draining, you feel so unaccomplished. You look at your failures, your messes in life and you just bring yourself back down into that hole full of low self-esteem, sadness and doubt. But as the song above “I’m good” by Tim Bownman Jr. says, sometimes you have to look at yourself and shake yourself out of that phase. Think about all the goodness that God has done to your life and let all that “grief” go. Tell yourself YOU”RE GOOD, with God you are always good, good things will always come to you. He doesn’t hold anything good from you “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.”(Psalm 84:11) Just a short encouragement. Stay blessed!

P.s Just wanted to take this time to also thank you all for your support and love these past few months 🙂 . May God bless you all and much love from me ❤

Your Past Doesn’t Define Your Future

So you’re glued in the past like a recurring nightmare. Every single day, every single hour, every single minute. Feeling wrapped up by your past, starting to wonder what people would think if they knew. Has it become a part of who you are? Well has it?

See the more we think about it, the more we allow the past to consume who we can become. The past is that person at the other end of the rope, tugging us towards them. It knows it can’t survive unless we are willing to let it. we need to learn to let go of the shame we have of the past and start fresh with the future.

“I smile because I know my past doesn’t define my future, God does and he is on my side.” – Stylishly Inspired

A little encouragement that God is the one who shapes our future we just have to let him. He is a God who doesn’t use force but lets us willingly give our lives to Him to mould and shape it to what He has planned. When we learn to trust and work with God we bear much greater fruit, ““I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5). We begin to grow better, influence people better and live better. All sadness is replaced with joy, all hardship is replaced with peace and all doubt is replaced with faith. As He can turn our bronze to gold and our iron into silver (Isaiah 60:17), so can He turn our lives from the dead to life. He’s just waiting for us to abide in Him and receive SALVATION. (This is something I will touch on in detail in a later post).

Let’s give our lives to Him for without God we surely cannot do anything. We cannot progress, we can’t move on from our past, we cannot find peace and joy.

So trust in the lord for His plans for you are not of evil but of peace to give you a hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). Stay blessed!

When you give it all to him, the rest of your life will be smoother 🙂

Are You STUDYING or MEMORISING?

Now that you know the purpose of the bible it’s important to know how to read and study the bible. Many people believe the bible is like reading a novel, but a matter of fact this just lowers the value of the content in the bible. It’s more than just memorising verses and knowing what happens in it. To really benefit from reading the word of God you need to know what to do before the reading, during the reading and afterwards.

Before
There are a few things you need a BIBLE, pen and paper/notepad and most importantly prayer. It’s essential to pray before you read the bible to allow God to open up your eyes and reveal to you His word. There are 3 critical points to pray about:

1. The Holy spirit – The Holy spirit is the helper who is sent to teach you “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”(John 14:26). The holy spirit has the ability to guide you and teach you of God’s word, revealing to you the deeper things of God. “But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.”(1 Corinthians 2:10)

2. Revelation- you need to pray for a personal revelation of what you are about to read because the way we understand the verse is always different to another person. With a personal revelation, it makes it easier for you to keep that word in your heart and act according to it.

3. Ability to apply the verse in your everyday life – This is important to do every time you sit down to study the word of God. This is the key because at times we just read and understand but never act on the word. But God wants us to act on it. To BE like the people He wants us to be, not to just KNOW what type of people He wants us to be. So, always pray that what you learn you may also apply it in your everyday life.

During
DOT IT DOWN: When you find a link between the verse/chapter you are reading to another verse or chapter in the bible, dot it down. If you have a new understanding of that chapter/verse then you need to dot that down too. I suggest also writing the date, that way when you read that chapter/verse again and you get a clearer understanding then you can dot down your processes. This is something that really helped me and I found myself remembering more of the bible than I did when I wasn’t writing down ideas and thoughts everytime I read the bible.

After
Thank God for the reading and pray for more understanding as you meditate on it during the day/week. Make sure after a long reading to go over your notes so you remember better the key points you learnt and might want to pray about during that week.

I hope this has really spoken to someone and touched them and helped them on how to go about reading, studying and understanding the bible. Stay blessed!

“In the beginning was the word, the word was with God and the word was God.” (John 1:1)

Knowing Yourself, Knowing Your God

The bible is known to be the word of God, yes? But you’ll be surprised how many people don’t know the PURPOSE of the bible. The bible is not only for us to know the word of god, it is more than that, it’s not just about showing us the way we should live, it’s more than that. The bible reveals to us about ourselves and makes us know God and the way he works. It’s the foundation of our connection and communication with God. That’s why it’s essential to know the bible

As mentioned above there are 2 key things you understand from the bible are:
1. YOU and who you are
2. GOD, who He is and who He is to YOU

Let’s focus on the YOU first.
When we receive christ as our personal saviour we are no longer the person that we were before christ, we are made new. We are no longer of the world but have become part of the children of God. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17). With this, we need to be able to understand how the new us works and functions. Just like when you get a new technology device you read the manual to understand all the functions. That is what the bible is to Christians, it is a manual for ourselves. You get!

Okay, 2nd part, God and who He is to You.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1). It is critical to understand this because when we know God we begin to understand the purpose he has for our lives, and we can get to know God by reading his word (the bible). God is like the tools used to make us, He is the one who assembles us, makes us to perfection and fixes up all the loose knobs in us. However, how can we allow God to fix and build us if we don’t trust and understand how he functions? Like a mechanic, if He doesn’t understand His tools how will He know which one to use to be able to fix a problem. Just like us if we don’t understand God and who He is to us then how can we know how to pray to him to ALLOW Him to work on us.

Understanding this will enable us to study the word of God more efficiently and benefit from what God says more. Stay blessed!

If you don’t know yourself then how can you know God

CHILL! And Take A Step Back

You want to do this, you want to do that. You wish you could have this, you wish you could have that. You plan to have this, you plan to have that. However, have you ever considered what God has wanted, wished and planned for you?

I know I KNOW, it’s easy to get caught up in our own minds and start creating dreams and goals that we want to achieve that we sometimes end up forgetting to talk to God about them. Although, come on, let’s be real for a minute, at times it’s truly hard to consult God because we are afraid of the answer. We want to achieve our set goals so badly that deep inside we don’t want to hear God denying them. Oh how quickly we are to forget that God has better plans for us not of evil but to give us a future and a hope. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11).

We all know how much we can get caught up in the thought that we know what’s best for us. Although, it is God who knows us better than we know ourselves. “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9). Let’s understand this right here in a more simple sense. Our thoughts small, God’s thoughts BIG! you see the difference. What we think is good for us is actually a tiny bit good, what God thinks is good for us is BEYOND good, even exceeds our own understanding.

Now, this brings us, yes, to the song I have decided to include in this post and finally mentioning its purpose now. I love this song “background” by Lecrae because it talks exactly about what I have mentioned, it’s an inspiration for this post. We need to play the background in order to do Gods work in us, not to do our own will but Gods will. If we do it on our own we will think we have achieved all we can, when actually we have achieved nothing. So, let’s take a step back…chill down a little and let God be the superstar. Stay blessed!

The joy from God will give you a happy peace 🙂 a lovable peace ❤

We Are Not Crazy

Something I have started to notice and has began to bother’s me is the way social media these days displays how women should act in a relationship. Viewing us as eye candy for men and high maintenance, instead of the partners that we should be. Teaching young ladies that we are supposed to be crazy, jealous and very demanding in a relationship. Moreover, telling us that “THIS IS THE NORM”. Well, have I got news for you! It ISN’T! This type of fake reality is disrespectful to women and here we are sitting and allowing this unwanted label to process.

The lord created us, women so that men wouldn’t be lonely, we are helpers, not stress-causers. Have we forgetten that God has already purposed how women should act even in a relationship. We are not meant to be quarrelsome “Better to dwell in the wilderness, Than with a contentious and angry woman.”
(Proverbs 21:19). This is why the rates of breakups and divorces have increased, it is not in our nature as women to fight and be angry all the time. It is also up to us women and mothers to teach the younger generation of women. We shouldn’t leave them to believe what social media says because that is the platform for the devil to decrease the value and potential of a woman. Even the bible tell us, women, what to teach the younger generation of women “the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behaviour, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things— 4 that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.”(Titus 2:3-5)

Ladies, we are not crazy and we don’t need to accept this label from anyone. What started out as a playful joke on social media has become the true reality in how relationships are managed in our society today. Yes, I’m also talking from experience, seeing all those social media jokes about crazy, jealous girls and the words “How girlfriends be like” (is this ringing a bell to anyone else), Afterwards I would ask myself am I a crazy person? Am i the jealous type of girl? then i would start to imagine how I would be in a relationship in the way social media perceived women as a guideline. This was an obvious mistake because it led to a lot of stress and worry of how I wasn’t like the “typical girl/girlfriend”. I wasn’t skinny, I didn’t like showing too much skin, I didn’t like a lot of attention and I was definitely not the jealous type. See this is were it all begins, social media had got us thinking that there is something wrong with us that we need to be like all the other girls.

But, I want to thank God because He showed me that being different in this corrupted society is exactly what I need to be. WE are not crazy, WE don’t have to show skin to feel accepted, and We don’t need to listen to the voice of social media. We are strong women, We don’t need attention from men, We don’t need acceptance from this world. We just need acceptance from God and He wants us to be different and look to Him. Not to get caught up with how the world wants us to run but by how He wants us to run. At the end of the day He is the one who has already destined our lives and who we are going to be with forever, so just wait upon Him. Stay Blessed!

WE are strong, NOT weak, WE are sane, NOT crazy

God Pleaser not People Pleaser

Nowadays I see Churches and Christians becoming more of people pleasers than God pleasers. Church services have now without a doubt formed into concerts and entertainment centres rather than a place of exalting God. It’s a shame to see people lose focus on God because He deserves that moment of adoration and praise for all the goodness He has done in our lives.

We need to focus on our relationship with God, begin to grow stronger in Him and restore that true love for God that is weakening. There was a time where I, myself, was no longer doing the things of God (Such as worship and prayer) because I wanted to do it for God. I started to do them because I felt that was what I was expected to do, I was doing it out of my desire to please others, it was no longer about doing it for the love I had for God. If you read my post “The war is not over yet” I mentioned how there was a time where people would give me many ideas and thoughts wanting to rule my life. However, that is wrong! Nobody can govern your life except God, He is the one you should be trying to please.

The fact is people will always have opinions and a certain way they want you to behave and think. Let me tell you today, forget that, forget them, JUST KEEP DOING YOU! We were not brought on this earth to please mankind, we were put here by God to fulfil what He has purposed for our lives, not what others have purposed for it. It’s by His grace that He gives us a new day every day and allows us to live. If that’s not enough to want to please God then I don’t know what is, because last time I checked people are not the ones who formed us, planned our lives and created a destiny for us before we were even born “Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.” (Psalm 139:6)

We need to start becoming God pleasers again, doing what God finds pleasing. Which is having faith and putting our trust in Him, obeying His commands in our lives and relying on Him always, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for He who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6). Only then will we see His love flow in every aspect of our lives. Let’s stop pleasing people and start pleasing God! Stay blessed!

He wants to do so much in your life, His just waiting on you to give Him your life.

Prayed? Now What

Ever had that feeling that God is not answering your prayers? Then you start to wonder has God really forsaken you? It’s funny how quickly we as humans find blame in something other than ourselves. We are quick to point fingers at others, though find it difficult to point at ourselves and realise when we are at fault.

There was a time in my life where I would pray and pray and pray, yet see no results. I started to become convinced that God was not hearing me at all, I felt alone and abandoned by God. Wondering all the time what I had done to anger God, was it fixable and could I make him love me again? It was hard to tell people this problem because no matter how much I love my family and friends I didn’t want them to see me in this position. I was afraid of what they would think, what they would say about me to themselves and I was afraid of them thinking less of me. I was stuck in my own bubble of confusion, fear, sadness and hurt.

Then one day I got a revelation as I was reading the bible, the problem wasn’t my thoughts of God abandoning me, it was within me. It was about where my heart was at after prayer. When we pray at times we have these little doubts afterwards, has God really heard me? Is he going to make it really happen? I knew then that my heart was not in the right place. All these thoughts would come and I would allow them to develop and grow with each prayer. God wants to do so much in our lives and he can only do them if we allow him to. Our lack of faith after prayer limits God’s power and blessings towards us. I was limiting God from answering my prayers, I was allowing doubt to cloud my faith and to silence it.

Faith is a critical component to enable God to work upon us, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). The important part of prayer happens after the prayer, so it is very important for us to have faith after prayer. If our hearts are not set right we may block what God had planned to give to us. It’s not that God hasn’t heard us, it’s that we have built a wall and limited his access to our lives. We need to learn to break that wall and have faith and trust God wholeheartedly “Blessed are those who put their trust in Him”(Psalm 2:12). God is ready to give us all he has promised us, however it is up to us to let him in and do so. Stay Blessed!

“For [his] love [for you] is as strong as death” (Song of Solomon 8:6)

The Truth Shall Set You Free

“the truth is unless you let go, unless you forgive yourself, unless you forgive the situation, unless you realise that the situation is over, you cannot move forward.”
– Dr Steve Maraboli

A Christian life is hard at times and that is the truth. Don’t be fooled by those who tell you it’s all rainbows, sunshine and lollipops. The fact of the matter is that a Christian life is supposed to be hard. Look at Jesus, he died, NAILED on the cross, that all may receive salvation and be free from the bondage of sin. It was not an easy task, even Jesus knew that as he prayed on Mount Olives (Luke 22:39-46) before he was crucified. Where were the rainbows and the sunshine then?

The world full of trials and temptations, we as Christians sometimes forget that we are not meant to be perfect. Every so often, we are bound to fall and become weak, this is only so that God’s power may be seen through us. “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9), this means at times we will end up on the wrong path. This is why God is a forgiving father, his mercy endures forever and will guide us on the right path again.

One of the feelings that stops us from embracing this concept is GUILT. The guilt produced when we have done something wrong or believe we have done something wrong in God’s sight. This guilt convinces us to bury it deep inside “act” like nothing has happened and move on. What we fail to realise is that something already is happening, the more we keep it in, the more it will consume us. We become distant from God, we fear to go before him in prayer, even for a simple thank you, for deep down we still feel that we are not worthy to go before him after what we have done.

Personally, I have been through this road, it’s a dark and lonely one. Our guilt will try and persuade us that everything is okay if we keep staying our distance from God, but that is not the case. As the quote indicates, if you don’t let go, if you don’t forgive yourself and the situation then how can you move forward with God. God said, “come now, let us reason together, though your sins are red as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow” (Isaiah 1:8). God knew that at times we will go astray, but he will always receive us with open arms when we return to him like the father of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32).

God forgave the Israelites time and time again, even when he was greatly angry with them for their sins, he still showed mercy and love to them. So, what more can he forgive and show mercy to you? His most beloved child.

We just need to come to an understanding that all we need to do is bring all our burdens to him “Cast your burden on the Lord, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved” (Psalm 55:22). Present the burden of guilt before God, ask for mercy and surely his mercy shall shine upon you. Surely you will feel free, knowing that the situation is over will give you the capacity to move forward with God. Stay blessed!

Smile in your darkest hours and in your brightest days because God always has your back 🙂
